Here is how: You can only save limited money when signing up for roaming packages (such as Vodafone Passport) from your current operator. There are always monthly fees and limitations in one way or another.

What you should do is to simply change your SIM-card. This effectively means you are using another mobile phone subscription while abroad.

A STEP BY STEP DESCRIPTION OF WHAT YOU SHOULD DO

- Before going away to another country

1. Sign up for an Operator One account.
2. Register the contacts you usually call.
3. Add credit to your account, using your credit or debit card. Minimum credit to be added is 2.

- When you have arrived to the other country

1. Purchase a local SIM-card of any kind. Make sure it has a good local rate during the hours of the day when you wish to make your calls. Also make sure that it actually works to call out from your phone with this SIM-card. If it doesnt work ask the sales person for help.

3. There you will be provided with a list of local phone numbers to all your contacts. Save these numbers on your SIM-card if you like.
4. Now, make direct phone calls, using local phone numbers to your international contacts.

- The next time you arrive in the same country

1. Insert the local SIM-card you bought last time.
2. Dial the local Operator One service number, available on http://m.operatorone.eu/. At the prompt dial 1.

Thats it. This means cheap, local calls wherever you are. (The Operator One Connect service is available in 29 countries.)

- When you visit yet another country

1. Purchase a local SIM-card and make sure it works to make calls from your phone with it.
2. Add the SIM-cards phone number to your Operator One Connect account, by signing in on www.operatorone.eu or http://m.operatorone.eu.
3. Get a list of new local phone numbers to your contacts.
4. Start calling, using these local numbers.

- How can I receive incoming calls?

When you call any of your contacts in your Operator One contact list, their caller ID will display a phone number that is local to them. This phone number can be used to call back to you directly. If your contact is not a subscriber to the Operator One Connect service you will pay for the incoming call, but at a lower rate than if you were roaming.

You can also purchase a local number in your favorite city of the world that you can give to anybody, without them being registered in your contact list. Operator One will soon launch this new service. Please check back on www.operatorone.eu in February 2009.

- What are the benefits with this way of calling vs other solutions?

1. You limit your costs when you are abroad.
2. When you make international calls with other dialup solutions, you will first need to make a local call. This means you will be charged regardless if the call is successful or not. With Operator One you will only pay for the call if the other end picks up the phone.
3. You are not dependent on finding a SIM-card that has competitive international rates. You just ask for the best local rates, which normally the SIM-sales representative will know very well and can guide you to the best offer in that given situation.

- What are the drawbacks?

You have to register your new phone number to the service.

Solution: Either make sure that you have access to an internet connected computer or use your internet browser in your mobile device. Optionally you can purchase a local SIM-card before you leave for the trip. We recommend the following services: www.rebelfone.com, www.telestial.com.

You can not receive SMS and MMS.

Solution: It is therefore recommend that you also have your regular subscription running and your phone on (roaming). Or, for maximized saving, ignore these messages and never turn on your subscription when roaming. Note that if you have a voicemail and turn on your home subscription once or more when roaming and then turn it off, you will be charged roaming charges on incoming calls, forwarded to your voicemail.

You need to make sure your mobile operator has not locked your handset to their network.

Solution: If you dont know if your phone is locked you could contact your network operator or the place where you bought the phone, and theyll tell you. It is possible to unlock a phone, but you should first check with your operator to see if its okay to do so.

Most internet-dependent mobile phone applications (e.g. e-mail, GPRS-positioning) need to be updated with a different setting when you change SIM-cards. Most modern phones handle this neatly, but it is tricky if you do not know how this works in detail.

Solution: Dont use these applications while away. Or do the changes needed and change them back when you are home again.

When is sprint getting new phones for 2009?
i had the htc touch when it first came out then got the htc diamond when it first came out. I'm always getting phones when they're first out and its time for a new one although i just got it (my babe actually) in november but idk the screen is getting marked lol with my nails so looks like scratches. do you know when?
