The VOIP phone system is one of the latest technological innovations that can be found in the workplace. The Internet undoubtedly revolutionized the way businesses work and individuals spend their free time. The Voice Over Internet Protocol allows you to make calls over the Internet rather than using traditional methods of telephoning other people. However, few people know about the ins and the outs of the technology and so the following article will give you a little insight into what it is, what it can do and how you use it! By the time you have finished reading, you will have more than enough basic knowledge to use a VOIP system effectively.

Equipment

In order to be able to use a VOIP system, you first need to obtain a computer. Without a computer it is extremely difficult to make VOIP calls. There are some mobile devices that allow VOIP functionality but they are less widely used and not as convenient. A computer will give you access to all of the free Internet-based calling services out there. If you have a computer, simply log on to the Internet and search for VOIP software. The majority of it can be downloaded for free, which makes up for the fact that you will have to purchase a VOIP compatible headset. The headset will incorporate the microphone and the earpiece so you can then begin to chat as and when you are ready to begin.

How Does VOIP Work?

When you call an individual over a VOIP phone system, you are literally calling him or her over the Internet. The technology behind the call itself is very similar to that used to transport your voice over a phone line, with the main difference being that it is carried through your broadband connection instead! If you still happen to be on a dial-up connection then it is doubtful that VOIP will work for you.

As there are various different VOIP services available, the operation of the phone system itself for each one may be unique. There are certainly marked differences between them, although they all benefit from the same functionality. In order to make sure that your computer is compatible and you can actually use the system you choose effectively, you should always read the user guide that comes with it. That way, if you do have any questions in advance, you can find out the answers before you start.

Calling

Calling on a VOIP system can be much cheaper than using a traditional landline and, in some cases, may even be free. Other individuals that have the same VOIP system as you, Skype for example, can make calls to you and receive them from you for free. However, if you are calling a user on another VOIP system or a traditional landline phone then you will be charged for the call itself. However, you should check out your calling options in advance. Some services offer different tariffs, much like a mobile phone company. You can choose to pay a monthly fee or opt to pay for the calls that you make, as you make them. Some services also add an extra charge if you want to receive calls from landlines.

It may come as a surprise to find out that VOIP may cost you, and that may initially put you off, but it works out a lot cheaper than using a landline or a mobile phone. In fact, it can be less than half of the cost, depending on how you use your service! However, some services are more expensive than others so be sure to check the tariffs in advance.

Issues

Quality may be an issue with existing VOIP services because the actual phone system does not have to adhere to any minimum standards. This is because he technology is so new that none have been set as yet. This could mean that the quality of certain calls would be poor, but you have nobody to officially complain to so be prepared!

As previously mentioned, the quality is also poor on dial-up connections so it may not be well suited to the equipment you have. This also applies to the operating system of your computer. Some VOIP systems cannot be used on older systems because they are not technologically advanced enough to be able to handle it.

Finally, if you have a limit on the amount of data you can download per month then VOIP may cause you a few problems. VOIP uses data to transport your voice and the person you are calling's voice. As a result, it counts towards that limit and may actually use it up much more quickly than the applications you already use and surfing habits that you already have do. It is not hard to use 50MB+ up in an hour of chat! Be aware of this before you begin to make VOIP calls because you may want to rethink your package.

VOIP phone systems are most definitely the way to go in terms of the future of communication. They are convenient to use, as well as fairly cheap. However, you should always explore your options and read the documentation and user guide before beginning because this could save you a lot of hassle in the future!

Sprint Replacement Phone W/ Insurance?
I have had insurance on my phone for the past four years, I pay for it every month, and have been through many phones (which is why I need insurance, lol). I usually get a replacement if they can not fix it (either the same phone, or a newer like model if they do not carry the old one anymore). They usually open the box in front of me and put it together and give me the box and accessories in the box (whether or not it is refurbished, I have never known). This last time, I just got a different phone and the charger- which is not the same phone I had before, no box, no users guide, and missing a memory card and headphones set used to play the music. I am getting no where with the Sprint store and contacted corporate. I am just wondering if they give you a totally different phone (as in different model altogether)- refurbished or not- then why don't you get the parts of the phone that goes with it to make it fully functional? These things came with my prior replacement phones- especially if it was different than the original phone. It doesn't make sense, if I could play music on my previous phone, why can't I now? Why is it missing everything? That does not seem right. If I am getting a totally different phone then it should come with all the pieces and instructions-- please let me know any comments, prior experiences, suggestions, or any advice you have. It is greatly appreciated!

The Nokia 5800 phone was introduced in late 2008 and first quarter of 2009. True to form, Nokia is already planning on its next groundbreaking smart phone, and rumor has it that this new model is code named the Nokia Eitri.

Rumors such as these are generally true, so if a prototype of the Nokia Eitri is unveiled in early 2009, you can almost plan on a fall 2009 release of the new handset.

So what does this rumored new handset have that the Nokia 5800 does not?

First off, it will be at all touch smart phone that will have a 3.5 inch display. This is an important feature because when it comes to smart phone displays, the more real estate the better. It will contain the same 640 x 350 display as the 5800, and you can bet Eitri would it will have at least 8 GB of memory onboard.

The handset will be in landscape candy bar form with what looks like will contain a QWERTY keyboard. The Nokia Eitri will no doubt have it least a five megapixel camera onboard. It is unknown the extent of video capability will be with this Nokia model.

The handheld touchscreen smart phone market is heating up at a blistering pace. The moment that any of these companies such as Nokia, Apple, or Research in Motion unveils their next smart phone marvel, they must be in full swing in hyping the next up-and-coming model.

Whoever said it was easy to be a smart phone manufacturer?

Just wait - every phone on the market will soon be a touchscreen, and we can all thank Steve Jobs and the Apple iPhone for ushering us into what is turning out to be an exciting and continuous rollout of fabulous handset technology. Only time will tell if the Nokia Eitri makes it to the marketplace unscathed into its rumored form. Stay tuned!

A lot has been said about the iPAQ and it's various models. In this article I'd like to talk about a specific model, the iPAQ H6315 PDA, and what has been the experience of people with this model. Please note that this device is a PDA – phone combination, also known as "smart phone". This increasingly popular option gives you more added value because you don't need to carry your cell phone around in addition to the PDA.

Let's begin with going over the features of this device:

1.The H6315 is an integrated PDA + cell phone. In the US, this device works perfectly along with the T-Mobile and Cingular networks. What does this mean for you? Well, you can forget about carrying around two devices (PDA and cell phone) and replace them with one device.
2.This device has the ability to connect to a GPS system. You can actually find your way to any destination in the country using the GPS system along with a suitable map software. Make sure you install the voice software so your iPAQ can give you sound directions while you are driving.
3.Full Internet and email capability. This is a standard feature among PDA's today, but it's worth mentioning. The ability to connect to the Internet makes this device especially useful. Imagine you are driving your car to a new client, using the directions the PGS system gives you. At some point, the client calls your phone. You can take the call with your iPAQ while still driving and talk to the customer. Let's say he want to send you a PDF file. No problem. He send it to your regular email account, and it's being forwarded to your iPAQ. You now can access the PDF file through your email and PDF software that are installed on your iPAQ. If you need to see more data from the Internet maybe – again – no problem – you can use the browser on your iPAQ.
4.Calendar and reminder. Let's say you are out of your office all day. Your iPAQ calendar can be updated automatically with all your appointments while you are on the go.
5.You get all these capabilities for less that $500. This is a lower price than the competing machines and you get great value for the price.

Ok, so we've gone through the good stuff, let's look at a few disadvantages of this device, as were reported by actual users on websites such as Amazon.com:

1.The device requires quite a few "soft resets" while operating. Now this is not so unusual, as many of us experience this with our PC's. To eliminate this problem as much as possible make sure you upgrade your ROM to the maximum possible. This will enable you to use all the PDA's abilities with lower chance of resets.
2.Sound of voice on the phone is a bit weak. But this can be addressed with the proper software that enhances the voice level.

Hopefully this review helped you make a better decision about your future iPAQ. The HP iPAQ H6315 PDA gives good value for money option, and is a worthy option in today's PDA market.

Cell Phone Protection against radiations:
There are now predictable to be 208 million cell phone users in the U.S. alone, 1.9 billion all over the world. Scientists panic we might be on the verge of a health calamities of epidemic proportions. Dr. George Carlo, previous chief scientist of the cellular phone industry's $28 million safety research project, estimates 500,000 new cases of brain and eye cancer every year by 2010 attributable to cellular phone use (there are at present 30-50,000 cases every year).

Studies have linked cellular phone radiation to health problems like headaches, high blood pressure, brain tumors, cancer, Alzheimer's, and many more. There is a latency period for most diseases and it may take many years and more studies prior to the needed weight of evidence are founded. But the effects are cumulative and safety measures ought to be taken now before it is too late.

Here are few steps you can take to diminish/lessen the effects of cellular phone radiation contact:

1. Limit use to necessary calls and keep calls short. Even a two-minute call has been found to change the innate electrical activity of the brain for up to an hour afterwards.

2. Children ought to be permitted to use the cellular phone in cases of urgent situation only. Because of their developing skulls, the radiation can penetrate much more deeply.

3. Usage of ear an air tube headset (not normal wired headset). The regular wired headset has been established to deepen radiation into the ear canal. The wire transmits not only the radiation from the cell phone but also serves as an antenna drawing EMFs (electromagnetic fields) from the environs

4. Don't put the cellular phone in your pocket or belt at the time of its usage. The body tissue in the lower body area has fine conductivity and sucks up radiation more rapidly than the head. One study shows that men who wear cellular phones near their groin could have their sperm count plunged by as much as 30 percent.

5. In case youre using the phone without a headset, wait for the call to connect prior to placing the phone next to the ear.

6. Do not use the cellular phone in enclosed metal spaces like vehicles or elevators, where devices might use more power to set up connection. The metal enclosure also acts as a Faraday cage that traps the radiation and reflects it back onto the inhabitants.

7. Do not make a call when the signal strength is one bar or less, which means the mobile phone, ought to work harder to set up a connection.

8. Buy a phone with a low SAR (Specific Absorption Rate). Most cellular phones have a SAR level listed in its instruction guide. The SAR level is a way of measuring the amount of radiofrequency (RF) energy that is absorbed by the body. The lesser the number the better. (Be aware, nevertheless, that studies with RF hundreds of times lower than present SAR limits still show biological consequences.

9. Use a scientifically validated EMF protection device. There are advanced technologies available nowadays that strengthen your bioenergy field and immune system against the effects of EMF. The EMF radiation causes a problem only when the cumulative effects due to frequent exposure weaken the body's ability to mend itself. Even when you don't use the cellular phone, 'second-hand' radiation and EMFs from other devices may also cause biological stress, so these kinds of devices are becoming more vital.

10. Take nutritional supplements, mainly anti-oxidants SOD, catalase, glutathione, and Coq10. Microwave radiation has been shown to lessen levels of these anti-oxidants in the body. These are stuffs the body makes to protect itself, and their levels are sensitive indicators in strain, aging, infections and different other disease states. Other supplements you might require are:
- Melatonin: a powerful anti-oxidant noted to avert DNA breaks in brain cells. Also effective in averting kidney damage from cellular phones;
- Zinc: safeguards the eye from oxidative damage and helps protects the levels of anti-oxidants in the blood;
- Gingko Biloba: an herb considered an influential anti-oxidant which averts oxidative damage in the brain, eye and kidney. Also helps support the manufacture of SOD, catalase and glutathione;
- Bilberry extract: conserves vision and lessens oxidative damage to the eyes.

This list is not exhaustive but represents dissimilar layers of interference you may do right away to guard yourself and your folks. Cellular phone radiation (and wireless radiation generally) poses a tremendous public health risk that can take years to become completely recognized. Certain experts go on to say that if estimates are right, then we are on the verge of a health calamities that could cripple our present health infrastructure. Let's not wait and find out if this proves factual.
Cell Phone Protection from virus:
Forty-nine million people can now tap into the Internet by cellular phone and that number is estimated to double in the subsequently year, but these so-called smart phones may not be very smart when it comes to viruses. As customer specialist Ric Romero found out, these cellular phones can be infected just like computers. Yes, a virus could target your cellular phone, but there are a lot more ways to protect your phone from getting infected.

Mark Copeland, a cellular phone user, lately got a new cell phone and it is loaded. His cell phone has Internet, email and it can even bond/connect wirelessly to his laptop. One more thing it can do is catch a virus.

But he ought to, particularly if he downloads documents, pictures or music.

Symantec spokesperson Sarah Hicks says, "We're starting to see an augmented amount of these kinds of malware hit cellular phones and wireless PDA's."

Cell viruses are frequently disguised as free games. They are very interesting to youth and young adults, but they can harm your phone.

Hicks stated that the damage can be anything from just changing some of the settings to in fact stopping the operation of the device and stealing information. Even draining your minutes, making long distance calls at your cost.

A lot of smart phones have built-in safety that computers don't. But smart phones are susceptible, even more so when they use Bluetooth.

Bluetooth lets people to use a wireless earpiece or to beam phone numbers amid a phone and PC.

Joe Farren with CTIA-The Wireless Association says, "Sometimes viruses can travel through the Bluetooth. So what we advise is people turn off their Bluetooth when their device is not having contact with another device."

But most of the people don't. When Mark Copland's computer searched for his phone's wireless connection, it also found another cellular phone not far away. That can be an open door for a virus.

"Subscribers ought to still take the same safety measures with their wireless phone as they do with their PC," says Farren.

If you access e-mail on your cell, be cautious. "Don't open attachments from populace you don't know. Only download content from trusted basis," says Hicks.

A lot of anti-virus companies are now providing software to protect wireless devices.

By the way, if you are a Blackberry user, you will be satisfied to know they are hard to infect. While they can read e-mail, they can't download programs and that is how most viruses get into cells.

Help answer the question about phone guide setting

The clock on my computer keeps slowing down?
I have a Gateway laptop with Vista on it. Every time I set my clock to the correct time, a couple hours later it will be like 3 minutes slow. I use my cell phone as a guide, because that time is always right, no matter what.

My question is, how can I keep this from happening? I use my computer clock alot as it is more conveinent to look at then opening up my cell phone to check the time.
